A little about me and my art
I am primarily a mixed-media artist but I also work in other formats: assemblage, digital illustration and custom furniture/sculpture. My assemblages are altar-like, ritualistic, gritty, sensual, textured, intricate and personal.
About me: I was raised in Arizona, one of those annoying Zonies, and now, having lived in San Diego for over seven years, love it so much that the thought of living anywhere else makes me want to cry. My art education consists of a few classes in college (ultimately got a degree in Women's Studies) and an Artist's Way class which was life changing. I have been on a spiritual quest since I was 14 and an informal student of Buddhism for the last few years. I have four tattoos and will undoubtedly get more.
About my art: The materials in my mixed-media pieces are largely remnant and discarded and/or found objects with some organic bits for balance. Most of my mixed-media assemblages have a secret element to them. Often, I include something that is of great sentimental value to me that the viewer would have no way of knowing about and/or a blessing hidden somewhere in the piece.
Who is inspiring me right now: Lee Bontecou, Dave Grohl, William McDonough.
A few of my favorite/recurring themes: paradox, death/dying, universal guidance, loss, redemption and sickness. And although I have for some time now lived quite the above-board lifestyle, I have a pretty serious dark side and a bit of a shady past. All of this shows up in my work!
